Sustainable Design

The preservation of historic buildings is an inherently sustainable practice that is compatible with the goals of “green” design. ARG’s approach to integrating sustainability into rehabilitation projects is to first recognize and capitalize on historic features that are energy efficient, and second to carefully implement new strategies and technologies for energy and water efficiency while being sensitive to the historic resource. The key to a successful sustainable preservation project is to find the balance point where both preservation and sustainability goals are met. We have completed sixteen LEED-rated projects in historic buildings.
