UC Berkeley – Haas School of Business

The new Haas School of Business Entrepreneurship Hub is located at 2232 Piedmont Ave, originally a single-family house designed by noted architects Julia Morgan and Ira Hoover in a Period Revival style with Elizabethan and Arts and Crafts influences.

Constructed in 1909, the building is a City of Berkeley Landmark and appears to be eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. The building was acquired by the University of California, Berkeley in 1958 and has housed several academic purposes over the years. Despite minor modifications and upgrades since its construction, many of the character-defining details and forms of the building are intact.

ARG was the Prime Architect for the renovation of 2232 Piedmont Avenue for use as the Haas School of Business Entrepreneurship Hub. The project began with an existing conditions assessment of the building and site. As part of the feasibility study, we prepared conceptual designs and diagrams for a new project program as well as cost estimates

ARG assisted the University with programming the space to be conducive for a myriad of student activities, including collaborative teamwork, student-led entrepreneurship clubs and programs, mentorship activities, and hackathons. The scope of work included: building envelope improvements; accessibility upgrades, including a new building addition with an elevator; site improvements; interior renewal; and complete MEP upgrades, including conversion from gas to all-electric systems.
