Sustainability

As a firm rooted in preserving special places, ARG implements sustainable design strategies across our practice and operations to improve our stewardship of this planet we call home. In 2020, ARG joined the AIA’s 2030 Commitment to demonstrate our responsibility to combating climate change and created a Sustainability Action Plan to guide our projects towards net zero carbon by 2030.

The reuse and rehabilitation of existing buildings is a powerful strategy to retain embodied carbon. With this understanding, ARG has implemented several initiatives to quantify the carbon impact of our practice and to achieve optimal building performance outcomes. We integrate carbon estimating and modeling tools such as cove.tool and CARE tool into our design process, we prioritize sustainable and healthy materials selections, and we specify appropriately sized, efficient systems in all of our design projects.

With 11 LEED-accredited professionals on staff, our projects have achieved LEED certification at all levels (from Certified to Platinum) and have been awarded commendations from the NPS, Savings by Design, and other organizations for their creative sustainable approaches. Our commitment to sustainability extends to our internal operations through the implementation of green office practices in all three of our locations.

By leveraging and accentuating the promise of preserving historic environments, ARG expands opportunities to protect built heritage, culture, and the planet.
